CVE-2023-33221 is a medium-severity vulnerability in Idemia Sigma Lite Firmware with a CVSS 3.x base score of 6.8. It is not currently listed as actively exploited by CISA, and its EPSS exploit-prediction score is low. The underlying weakness is classified as CWE-787.
Key facts
- Severity: Medium (CVSS 3.x base score 6.8)
- EPSS exploit prediction: 1% (60th percentile)
- Actively exploited: Not listed in CISA KEV
- Weakness: CWE-787
- Affected product: Idemia Sigma Lite Firmware

Description
When reading DesFire keys, the function that reads the card isn't properly checking the boundaries when copying internally the data received. This allows a heap based buffer overflow that could lead to a potential Remote Code Execution on the targeted device. This is especially problematic if you use Default DESFire key.
